Summer Fun in Berks County PA

August 23rd, 2024 by

We’ve all been cooped up in the house for far too long — it’s time to get out and enjoy some summertime fun! Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly attraction or a get-together with friends, there are plenty of great things to do in Berks County. Here are a few ideas to add to your list of this year’s “must-do” summer adventures.

French Creek State Park
A former industrial complex, the 7,730-acre French Creek State Park is home to lakes, fields, wetlands, and forests. It’s the perfect spot for enjoying the outdoors. Whether you like to hike, bike, fish, or camp, you can do it here. It’s also a safe haven for wildlife. Every time you visit, you’re sure to observe plenty of interesting birds, mammals, and more.
The park is open from sunrise to sunset every day of the year, so you can head out any day throughout the summer. Don’t forget to check the park’s activity schedule so you can find out about upcoming events like planned walks and hikes led by the park’s naturalists and evening demonstrations and talks.

Oley Turnpike Dairy
The Oley Turnpike Dairy opened in 1970 as a farm dairy store. In 1991, the zoo was established with just two baby calves. Now, it’s home to 80 to 90 animals including goats, llamas, sheep, alpacas, monkeys, birds, and more.
This is a fun and inexpensive adventure the kids are sure to love. After you’ve visited all the animals, be sure to stop by the Country Diner for traditional Dutch food or visit the ice cream parlor where you’ll find over 30 flavors of ice cream.

Laurelain Park Disc Golf
Disc golf has become hugely possible in recent years, and the Laurelain Park Disc Golf Course is the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing summer day with family or friends. This beginner-friendly course is perfect for novices and recreational players. It’s a nine-hole course that features concrete tees, some low hills, and a fairly open playing area with a spattering of trees.

Dry Brooks Beach
If you’re looking for a day of fun in the sun, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Dry Brooks Beach. It’s the perfect spot to spend the day relaxing by the lake or on the water kayaking, boating, or fishing.
There’s plenty of parking here and enough room for you to relax without feeling overly crowded. Pack a picnic lunch and spend some time swimming, bird watching, hiking or just kicking back and enjoying the day.

Schell’s Miniature Golf & Restaurant
Don’t settle for an average 18-holes of mini-golf when you can enjoy 27 awesome holes at Schell’s Miniature Golf & Restaurant. This one-of-a-kind course is the perfect mix of classic mini-golf holes and some fun surprises.
When you’re done, make sure you don’t forget to cool off at Dairy Swirl. Their menu features homemade ice cream, creamy malts, and handspun shakes. If you’ve worked up an appetite, you might want to stop at the restaurant first. They have all the classics including burgers, hot dogs, barbecue, and more.
